...Porter´s genius for form and harmonic structure continues to provide
jazz musicians with some of their most reliable vehicles for
improvisation…..Still, the composer was less than enthusiastic about
jazz musicians adapting his works…..Had he heard this collection by the
imposing young Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren and his trio, Mr. Porter
might have altered his view of jazz interpretations of his songs.
"Cole Porter is for me maybe the number one composer and lyricist of
them all," Jan says. "Only George Gershwin and Jerome Kern could write
as intelligent music but, in addition, Porter wrote his own fantastic
lyrics. There are many great composers of popular music from this era,
but no matter how you look at things, Porter was unique."
