"Swedish Standards"
Jan Lundgren, piano/ Mattias Svensson, bass/ Rasmus Kihlberg, drums
Sittel Records
Recorded at Sun Studio, Copenhagen, May 10-11, 1997
Jan Lundgren belongs to the new generation of distinguished Swedish
jazz musicians. But not only that. He will very quickly become
established as one of the important names in the jazz world even
internationally, if he hasn´t already achieved that position before
this CD-release has reached the record counters.
Jan demonstrates, in every situation, a total control over his flow
of improvisation, together with a disarmingly playful approach which
alternates between forceful emphasis and an impressive command of form
and disposition throughout.
In similarity to his colleagues of the same generation, one can
notice in Jan a seriousness of purpose in relation to his role as a
musician, and a definite awareness of how to deal with his position in
the musical arena of today and in the future.
There is no doubt whatsoever that bassist Mattias Svensson and
drummer Rasmus Kihlberg can be included in the same new division of
jazz musicians. Both display technical brilliance and a broad spectrum
of colour and form in teamwork of an extremely high level. With the
addition of Jan Lundgren we can hear a trio of world class, a fact for
which this production provides true evidence.
